- Natural working space - CoeLux at Nordea Bank in Warsaw
Could a work environment stimulate our senses, inspire us to act, or calm us down?
The Polish architecture and interior design studio Workplace has succeeded in this aim by creating a biophilic environment at the Nordea Bank in Warsaw, that can influence the mental well-being of the people who work in it. CoeLux systems have been installed in the central part of the building, creating a pleasant environment and enabling better space use.
A biophilic approach
The spacious, sunny, and green Baltic Office opened in 2022, encourages the bank's team to work on-site. By following a smart on-site working model, spaces become fluid and multidimensional, and employees experience a stimulated yet relaxing environment.
CoeLux contributes to this feeling of well-being, as confirmed by our study and research findings.
The Sky, the natural light
The interior of the office is enhanced by CoeLux, creating an infinite and hyper-realistic sky. The extra light in the central part of the building not only creates a pleasant atmosphere but also allows better use of the available space. Thanks to CoeLux, it is possible to create an attractive space for people where previously only service rooms could function without access to daylight.
The products chosen are CoeLux 45 HC, the largest and most spectacular Skylight in the range, and CoeLux Long Sky Matte. Mirrors were placed adjacent to the product: an architectural play to further expand the space, creating the illusion of a spectacular reflected space.
Plant and water
Making the space even more nature-inspired is the use of numerous plants evenly arranged in the space. The color rendering given from the CoeLux lighting and its natural, slow movement help make the space pleasant and comfortable.
Also in the common area is an open water wall, discreetly integrated into its surroundings. The rustling not only calls to mind the sea but more importantly, it calms and relaxes the office users.
Effects of diurnal exposure to CoeLux
The effects of diurnal exposure to CoeLux were also studied in a Japanese workplace, where participants have been exposed to traditional artificial light in one room and a CoeLux device in the other.
The research demonstrated interesting results, including:
The ordinary level of arousal is the same, but work can be performed with lower stress (EEG measurement)
In terms of autonomic nervous activity, the nervous system that regulates involuntary physiologic processes including heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, digestion, and other condition, CoeLux light is more relaxing than the other light (ECG measurement)
Salivary measurements revealed an advanced onset of melatonin secretion, then a good quality of sleep is expected thanks to the maintenance of the circadian rhythm.
